What to do when you don’t know what to do?
Do the next thing.
Whenever I am overwhelmed, whenever I’ve finished praying and I’m like “now what?” I just do the next thing. It doesn’t have to be big. The next thing may not even have anything to do with the problem at hand. I know for me, sometimes it means go pee. Sometimes it means wiping my tears. Sometimes it means washing the dishes. Sometimes it means going to take a shower and getting ready for bed. Sometimes it means getting dressed. Sometimes, like when Hannah prayed before God and Eli, asking for a son, it means getting up and going to get something to eat.
I mean, how am I going to conquer and resolve life’s problems when I’m hungry?
All jokes aside, when I first tend to myself and my needs, I’m often able to better tend to the tasks on my to-do list and the needs of everyone else.
I feel like, most times, I walk through life rather aimless. Half the time I don’t know what to do with myself. But instructing myself to just do the next thing always helps brings clarity, cuts down on the confusion, and minimizes the monumental in my life.
“Those four words that have guided me through the darkest days. They have given me clarity and strength when I needed it & direction when I felt overwhelmed.”
