“Things We Lost in the Fire” — Pastor Charles Wesley Knight

Dr. Charles Wesley Knight is one of my favourite preachers by far.  Each of his sermons are gold.  This is one of the first sermons I’ve ever heard from him (and, of course, one of my favourites): More sermons can be found here. Being in a loving, long term relationship, having babies... they're all miracles that are so commonplace and easily entered into for most people that most take them for granted. 💜 I was talking about this with @vickitysquare this past weekend. As a single, childless woman I sit outside of both phenomena with awe and bewilderment as I marvel at the ease with which people get into relationships and get pregnant. Neither has come (or may come) as easily to me. 💜 It only takes dating in 2019 to realize what a miracle relationships are. 💜 What are the odds that you meet someone who you actually like AND who likes you *back* AND you are both attracted to one another AND you are both single at the same time AND you're both emotionally available AND you both share the same values AND you're both in the same place at the same time AND (here's the kicker) you both are willing to COMMIT to one another? It's unlikely and yet highly likely (because it actually does happen, ironically). And those are just the basic, *basic* variables that have to align for an enduring connection to happen. I'm convinced that meeting your person is a miracle. 💜 I remember watching a video about the development of a baby at @ontariosciencecentre . So many factors come into play in order for life to even happen -- from creating the right environment for sperm to survive to the spindle fibres separating correctly during meiosis and mitosis to actual labor and delivery... Babies are not only blessings; they are miracles. 💜 Now I understand why people have huge baby showers and cry at weddings and why Valentine's is such a big deal for most. These things are so widespread and yet so rare, so elusive and yet eventually, ultimately experienced by most. 💜 You can't miss what you don't have and so as far as I'm concerned today is simply Thursday. And I know that when I get married, I will miss my single days and look upon them with fondness. I also recognize that miracles cannot be forced. But finding love merits celebration. 🎉 💜 (Cards designed by @emilymcdowell_ and available for purchase at @venusenvyottawa ) #valentinesday2019 #happyvalentinesday

I think one of the highlights of my day was catching up with one of the members at @movati.athletic who has become a good friend of mine. We were both discussing our love of food -- eating it and making it. I might be giving myself away here, but whenever I'm going through something or I'm stressed I love to bake/cook. I #procrastibake. I stress bake. Cooking is the gift I give myself three times a day every day. I get to zone out, be distracted, work out my thoughts and create something yummy. Are you a fellow #procrastibaker? Reposted from @the.holistic.psychologist - There’s a major link between the food you eat and your mental health. We live in a convenience based world. This means much less cooking and more grabbing things on the go. Eating becomes mindless. As a result we have a mental health crisis. Invest the time to cook at home. It’s cheaper and you’ll be amazed at how good you feel. Make cooking the sacred ritual it was for your ancestors. Light candles, play music, have a friend or your love join you. It’s the ultimate act of self care. Don’t loose sight of the power that is your own kitchen #selfhealers #healyourself #foodismedicine #eatrealfood #holistichealth #functionalmedicine - #regrann #procrastibaking
Reposted from @adventistforum - Mary Ellen Britton was a Seventh-day Adventist and Civil Rights activist who fought for women’s voting rights and desegregation on public transportation. She was also the first licensed black female physician in Kentucky. In honour of #BlackHistoryMonth, and reposted from @beauty_redefined - Did you know companies like Dove, Nivea, L'Oreal, and Neutrogena sell self-tanners in North America and skin lightening products overseas? These companies rake in billions by telling some women they need "lighter, whiter, brighter" skin and others they need a "slimming, bronzed glow.” These products dominate global markets and target *women* directly. Women, then, spend billions of dollars per year to "fix" these "flaws" that never needed fixing. ✖️What if we opted out? I (Lexie, BR's co-director), was diagnosed with melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer, and had a big chunk of my thigh and my lymph nodes removed. I started using all protections against the sun, and stopped using self-tanners to prove to myself that tan skin wasn’t necessary for my self-esteem or ability to be loved. I haven't looked back since. ❗️Please note, the reasons black women feel pressure to lighten their skin are not always the same reasons white women or those of other ethnicities feel pressured to change theirs. Much of it comes down to beauty and sexual appeal regardless of skin color, but black people deal with a long history of white supremacy that underlies the pressure to appear more light, and that is a different conversation had by other experts. (Link to a post by Dr. Yaba Blay in our bio). ✖️What if we spent our money elsewhere? What if we tested what life would be like without using these magic fixes that in no way fix our lives? Ask yourself “What is the worst thing that could happen if I stopped using that product?" And then seriously consider what that could be. That person isn't as attracted to you? You don't deserve to be with a person who loves your skin tone more than YOU. You look more pale or dark than your friend at the pool? Pools are for swimming and enjoying the day, NOT for you to be gawked at! ✖️You don’t deserve to be held hostage by companies begging you to fix every inch in order to be valued and looked at. You are more than a body and you can be an example that our looks do not define us. #beautyredefined #morethanabody #seemorebemore - #regrann
