So I quit drinking. | Sarah Bessey

I read an article today where Chrissy Teigen opened up about her drinking, and it reminded me of a post that Sarah Bessey wrote a while back (link located towards the end). Chrissy says: “I was, point blank, just drinking too much,” she admitted. She said her drinking went from a drink or two here … Continue reading So I quit drinking. | Sarah Bessey

Another appropriate post for #familyday from the Holistic Psychologist Reposted from @the.holistic.psychologist - I made a choice to speak openly about my family for a reason. I spent a long time not understanding how unhealthy their dynamics were. We appeared like your typical happy unit. Even as a psychologist I wasn’t aware of how my ‘normal’ affected me, my relationships, and my world view. It was a painful discovery that rocked me emotionally. Every time I share my story a few people get uncomfortable, and I totally understand and respect that. We’re taught to honor our families and keep their secrets. We tell children ‘family is everything’ regardless of the actions within the family. That’s not something that resonates with me. Breaking patterns requires honesty, not blind adherence. I view them as good people with trauma and issues of their own. Doing the best they could. Living as they were modeled and teaching what they were taught. Unconsciously repeating cycles is at the root of all human behavior. The responsibility lies on me to awaken, not in them to change. But I still feel waves of shame and guilt for telling them I needed to walk away and heal. My conditioning runs deep. I made this post because I’ve worked with people for years who are struggling with this. My DMs are full questions like the ones above. People who are confused in their role with their parents, just like I was. My hope is that this reaches a person who’s in that hazy confusion #selfhealers #holistichealth #awakening #innerpeace #spirituality #mentalwellness #personaldevelopment #healing #healyourself - #regrann

Being in a loving, long term relationship, having babies... they're all miracles that are so commonplace and easily entered into for most people that most take them for granted. 💜 I was talking about this with @vickitysquare this past weekend. As a single, childless woman I sit outside of both phenomena with awe and bewilderment as I marvel at the ease with which people get into relationships and get pregnant. Neither has come (or may come) as easily to me. 💜 It only takes dating in 2019 to realize what a miracle relationships are. 💜 What are the odds that you meet someone who you actually like AND who likes you *back* AND you are both attracted to one another AND you are both single at the same time AND you're both emotionally available AND you both share the same values AND you're both in the same place at the same time AND (here's the kicker) you both are willing to COMMIT to one another? It's unlikely and yet highly likely (because it actually does happen, ironically). And those are just the basic, *basic* variables that have to align for an enduring connection to happen. I'm convinced that meeting your person is a miracle. 💜 I remember watching a video about the development of a baby at @ontariosciencecentre . So many factors come into play in order for life to even happen -- from creating the right environment for sperm to survive to the spindle fibres separating correctly during meiosis and mitosis to actual labor and delivery... Babies are not only blessings; they are miracles. 💜 Now I understand why people have huge baby showers and cry at weddings and why Valentine's is such a big deal for most. These things are so widespread and yet so rare, so elusive and yet eventually, ultimately experienced by most. 💜 You can't miss what you don't have and so as far as I'm concerned today is simply Thursday. And I know that when I get married, I will miss my single days and look upon them with fondness. I also recognize that miracles cannot be forced. But finding love merits celebration. 🎉 💜 (Cards designed by @emilymcdowell_ and available for purchase at @venusenvyottawa ) #valentinesday2019 #happyvalentinesday
